Dr. Mohamed Abasbassi promoveerde als “Arts” op 28 juni 2007 met onderscheiding aan de KUL. Nadien volgde hij de opleiding in de Algemene Heelkunde via de KUL. Op 31 juli 2013 werd hij erkend in de hoedanigheid van geneesheer-specialist in de heelkunde. Hij specialiseerde zich nadien verder in de Abdominale Heelkunde in het UZ Gasthuisberg te Leuven tot 2014.

Hij verwierf de bijzondere bekwaming in de abdominale heelkunde aan de KU Leuven op 31 juli 2014. Sinds 1 november 2015 is hij werkzaam als chirurg te AZ Damiaan Oostende en combineert dit met het consulentschap op de dienst colorectale heelkunde onder leiding van Prof. D’Hoore in het UZ Gasthuisberg te Leuven.

Hij heeft zich gesubspecialiseerd in de laparoscopie (zgn kijkoperatie) van zowel het abdomen als de thorax, met een voorliefde voor de colorectale ingrepen. In de bovenbuik werd er geïnnoveerd door het invoeren van de totale maagresectie via laparoscopie, en zelfs door de slokdarmresectie uit te voeren door een combinatie van laparoscopie en thoracoscopie.

In de onderbuik worden sinds kort resecties van de endeldarm uitgevoerd via gecombineerde laparoscopische en transanale weg.  Eveneens tot het aanbod behoort ook de sacrale neurostimulatie voor faecale incontinentie en LARS (low anterior resection syndrome).Proctologie ten slotte behelst de behandeling van abcessen, fistels, hemorroïden en kloven.
